How to Write About Team Culture Without Lying

5 min read

Culture sections are where JDs go to die. A few clichés ('we work hard, we play hard') and the candidate learns nothing.

Describe culture by describing artefacts: 'we keep meetings under 30 minutes', 'we do async standups in Slack', 'we close on Fridays once a month'. Concrete practices reveal real culture.

Autistic candidates are unusually good at noticing when the stated culture and the practised culture do not match — and they often disengage silently when they spot the gap.
