Executive Function and the First 30 Days

6 min read

Executive function — planning, prioritising, switching tasks — is exactly what onboarding demands at the moment a new hire has the least context. For autistic and ADHD employees this is especially taxing.

Provide a written 30-day plan with explicit goals for each week. Assign a single point of contact. Default to written communication for instructions so the new hire can re-read instead of re-ask.

These small structural choices cost very little and dramatically improve retention in the first six months.
